Are you insured exclusively in a foreign country?
EU EEA-Countries and Switzerland: EHIC - European Health Insurance Card
If you have a foreign health insurance from an EU EEA-country or Switzerland, it may be possible as a student for your psychotherapeutic treatment to be 100% covered by your foreign statutory health insurance, without any co-payment. This is arranged via the official Dutch coordinating body for EU students with a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC): Groep Buitenlands Recht. Groep Buitenlands Recht settles the costs of our therapy sessions (Dutch NZa tariffs) directly with your foreign health insurer.
However, the following conditions apply:
- You do not have Dutch health insurance
(Please note that you are legally required to take out Dutch health insurance as soon as you start working in the Netherlands. If you start working during treatment, you can insure yourself with a Dutch health insurer with whom I have a contract.) - You have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), usually printed on the back of your statutory health insurance card
- You officially reside in the Netherlands (i.e. you are registered with a Dutch municipality)
- You are a student and study in a Dutch city
- You have a referral (Basic Mental Health Care or Specialist Mental Health Care) from a Dutch general practitioner (GP)
More information can be found at:

The costs of treatment can only be reimbursed by a health insurer if I diagnose a mental disorder. If I am unable to diagnose a mental disorder, the initial consultations (including diagnostics) will still be covered by the health insurance.
Are you from Australia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Cape Verde, North Macedonia, Tunesia or Turkey?
It is very well possible that - as a student living in the Netherlands - your treatment will be 100% reimbursed out of the Dutch Health Insurance Act. Check the following website for more information: https://www.zilverenkruis.nl/en/to-the-netherlands/studying-in-the-netherlands
Are you from another country or do you have a different health insurance?
If you are from a different country or are insured with a different (e.g. private) health insurance provider, you should check with your insurer whether the costs of psychotherapeutic treatment abroad are covered.
I will then send you a monthly invoice, which you may submit to your private health insurer for reimbursement. I use the standard hourly rates (NZa tariffs) set by the Dutch Healthcare Authority.
